Ready for Business

The first sitting of the seventh session of the Scottish Parliament took place today, commencing with the oath taking of the elected members. It was an enormous privilege to be sworn in as the MSP for Falkirk East and Linlithgow, and I look forward to serving my constituents.

The oath-taking marks the formal start of an MSP’s service, and is a legal requirement before they can take their seat, vote, or take part in proceedings in the Scottish Parliament. The process was led by John Swinney as leader of the largest Party, who emphasised the constitutional principle of the sovereignty of the people.
