Ending Unsuitable Housing for Children in Falkirk East & Linlithgow

The first step will see the Government double its Acquisitions Fund to £80 million this year, bringing total targeted investment to £120 million. This will support the purchase of at least 1,200 homes over the next 18 months – meaning hundreds of children will be moved quickly out of temporary accommodation and into permanent tenancies.

Alongside this, there will be £2 million in discretionary housing payments to help families in temporary housing secure settled homes, pilots for long-term rent controls, and the introduction of Awaab’s Law in Scotland from March 2026, ensuring stronger protections against unsafe housing conditions.

This action comes against the backdrop of Westminster’s economic mismanagement and the fallout from Brexit, which has hit families hard and worsened the housing crisis. But the SNP Government is determined to deliver change – putting families and children first.

This is what progress looks like with the SNP: real investment, practical action, and a commitment to eradicating child poverty. And with independence, Scotland can go even further – ensuring that every child has the secure home and fair start in life that they deserve.
