Scotland’s Right To Decide

Right To Decide Debate

Today I will be voting for the Scottish Government motion:

“That the Parliament agrees that Scotland is a nation that has a right to decide its own future.”

Whatever your constitutional position, surely no democrat can disagree with that?

Voting for this motion does not require an MSP to support independence.  Scotland is a nation, not a region, and its people must have the right to determine how they are governed.

That principle was accepted by all the main parties before the 2014 referendum and reaffirmed through the Smith Commission. It should not suddenly become controversial simply because support for independence has grown.

More than a million young Scots will be eligible to vote by 2029 who had no say in 2014. No Westminster Government should be allowed to tell them that Scotland’s constitutional future has already been decided for them.

The choice must belong to the people of Scotland.
