£200m Promised by Labour – £zero delivered
I have joined SNP colleagues representing communities in the Forth Valley around Grangemouth in writing to Prime Minister Andy Burnham demanding answers on Labour’s promised £200 million for the area.
Eighteen months after that commitment was made, not a single penny has been allocated.
The closure of Scotland’s only oil refinery cost jobs, damaged our industrial capacity and left Scotland dependent on imported jet fuel. Meanwhile, Westminster found billions to intervene in strategic industries elsewhere in the UK.
The Scottish Government has already committed almost £100 million to Grangemouth, despite the key powers over energy and the economy remaining at Westminster.
Grangemouth workers have waited long enough.
It is ridiculous that we need to wait for the Labour in another country to say when its £200 million promise will be delivered and ensure that the money is invested in Grangemouth, not quietly swallowed up by the Treasury. Grangemouth needs investment and jobs.
