Martyn Day, SNP Candidate for Falkirk East and Linlithgow, Hails Progress Under SNP Broadband Initiative

The Scottish Government has exceeded its ambitious target to deliver gigabit-capable broadband connections to 20,000 homes and businesses in 2024-25, achieving an impressive 27,134 new connections across Scotland last year.

This milestone is part of the Scottish Government’s Reaching 100% (R100) programme, designed to ensure every home and business in Scotland has access to ultra-fast gigabit-capable broadband, essential for modern life, connectivity, and business.

Martyn Day, SNP candidate for Falkirk East and Linlithgow, praised the progress, stating:

“I welcome the 27,134 new connections for gigabit-capable broadband across Scotland last year – surpassing the Scottish Government’s target. These connections are vital for enabling people to work from home, buy and sell online, support the local economy, and enjoy the internet for leisure.

While this progress is significant, there’s more to be done, and the R100 programme will continue delivering new connections until 2028. However, broadband infrastructure remains a matter reserved to Westminster, which often slows progress. The Scottish Government is driving faster improvements despite these constraints, proving what’s possible with dedication. This underscores why we need independence to fully control these critical matters and deliver for Scotland’s people and businesses.”
