Tackling the Climate Emergency – Scotland Leading the Way

The SNP Government is dedicated to tackling the climate emergency. Action to meet the scale and pace of this crisis is not just an environmental imperative – it is also a moral necessity and an economic opportunity. That’s why tackling climate change remains a top priority for the Scottish Government.

Scotland has shown early and sustained leadership as one of the first countries in the world to declare a climate emergency. Under the SNP, we are already halfway to net zero and have achieved the largest reduction in emissions of any UK nation.

Between 1990 and 2022, Scotland’s emissions were cut by half, while our economy grew by 67%. This proves that cutting emissions and growing the economy can go hand in hand.

Looking to the future, the 2025-26 Scottish Budget will almost triple investment in offshore wind to £150 million, accelerating growth in the sector and underlining the government’s commitment to invest up to £500 million over the next five years. This will create jobs, drive innovation, and ensure Scotland plays its part in delivering a cleaner, greener future.
