At the heart of our conversation was a theme that’s shaped my entire political journey: Scottish independence.
I spoke about coming into politics not out of ambition, but from a deep belief in Scotland’s right to self-determination.
“I didn’t enter politics for the sake of being a politician — I joined the SNP because I believe in independence. That’s always been my driving force.”
We reflected on the energy of the 2014 referendum, and how, despite the result, it sparked a political awakening across the country.
“That campaign changed everything — it brought politics to life in communities, homes, and workplaces. We didn’t win that vote, but we built something lasting.”
Even after leaving Westminster, my commitment hasn’t wavered.
“I may be out of Parliament, but I’m not out of the movement. I’m still campaigning locally, still active in the party, and still completely focused on independence.”
