Standing With Migrant Care Workers

Martyn Day MSP was delighted to attend UNISON Scotland’s Fair Visa Campaign demonstration at the Scottish Parliament, alongside Falkirk West MSP Gary Bouse, meeting valued migrant workers from across the Falkirk district and hearing directly about the pressures they face under the UK Government’s hostile visa rules.

Migrant workers make a huge contribution to Scotland’s care sector, supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. They deserve respect, fair treatment and security — not the threat of deportation after giving so much to our public services.

Scotland’s care services rely on dedicated staff from across the world. They are part of our communities, and they should be valued as such.

Scotland needs the full powers of independence to give us vital control over the issues of visas and migration.
