Tobacco and Vaping Consultation
Vaping has an important role in helping many adult smokers quit, but it should never become a gateway to nicotine addiction for children.
That’s why I welcome the Scottish Government’s new consultation on restricting the packaging, appearance and display of vaping products. Bright colours, cartoon-style branding and eye-catching shop displays have no place in encouraging young people to take up vaping.
The SNP committed in our 2026 manifesto to introducing a vape display ban, treating vapes in the same way as tobacco products, and this consultation is an important step towards delivering that commitment.
If vaping is to remain available as a smoking cessation aid for adults, it must be marketed responsibly and kept out of the sightlines of children.
The consultation is now open for 12 weeks, and I would encourage anyone with an interest in the issue to have their say. You can read the proposals and respond here: Scottish Government consultation on tobacco and vaping products
