Putting Money Back in People’s Pockets
During these tough times, families across Scotland are feeling the squeeze. That’s why the SNP Scottish Government has introduced the Cost of Living Guarantee – a package of support that goes further than anything offered elsewhere in the UK, helping to keep more money in people’s pockets.
The guarantee is already making a real difference for households across the country. It includes:
- Abolishing peak rail fares in Scotland for good – making commuting and travel more affordable.
- Lower income tax than in England for the majority of workers – ensuring people keep more of what they earn.
- Free prescriptions and free eye appointments – reducing everyday healthcare costs.
- Free bus travel for 2.3 million people, including under-22s, over-60s, and disabled people.
- No tuition fees for Scottish undergraduate students – saving students thousands and keeping education accessible.
- Funded childcare hours – worth over £6,000 a year per eligible child to families.
- Free school meals, saving families around £400 per child per year, with expansion plans and more breakfast clubs on the way.
