Publish the Doyle Documents and Scrap the Lords for Good

The stench around Matthew Doyle’s appointment to the House of Lords is growing by the day.

At Prime Minister’s Questions, Stephen Flynn made clear that the House of Lords Appointments Commission confirmed in writing – two weeks before Doyle entered the Lords – that a vetting process had taken place and that the Prime Minister received that confidential advice. Yet when directly asked to publish it, Keir Starmer refused to answer.

We’ve seen this playbook before. The same excuses. The same obfuscation. The same attempt to ride out the storm.

There is only one way to restore even a shred of public confidence: publish every document, every piece of correspondence, and remove the peerage immediately.

But let’s be honest. This isn’t just about one appointment. It’s about a broken institution. The House of Lords is an unelected chamber of political patronage where jobs for life are handed out by party leaders. Scandal after scandal exposes the rot at its core.

It cannot be reformed. It should be abolished in its entirety.

When Scotland becomes independent, we will not replicate this failed model. We will have the chance to build democratic institutions from the ground up — transparent, accountable, and answerable to the people of Scotland. A fresh start means no jobs for life, no crony peerages, and no hiding behind process.
