Plans To Reduce Paperwork For Local Charities

The SNP is moving to cut red tape for local organisations by raising the charity audit threshold from £500,000 to £1 million. Right now, any charity bringing in more than £500,000 must undertake a full audit. Under the new legislation, only those above £1 million would need to do so.

If approved by the Scottish Parliament, the change will come into force on 1 January next year. It would mean 93% of Scotland’s 24,500 charities would no longer face audit requirements.

While the SNP is taking practical steps to support the third sector, Labour is adding pressure through National Insurance rises that hit charities hard. The SNP remains focused on helping organisations deliver for their communities.
