Over 4,000 WASPI Women in Scotland Dying Without Justice

Martyn Day has called for urgent action from the UK Labour government after new figures revealed that 4,134 WASPI women in Scotland have died since the end of 2020 without receiving a single penny of the compensation they were promised. That’s more than two women every day losing their chance to see justice for a wrong they endured.

“This is one of the most serious and shameful social injustices in modern UK history,” Martyn said. “During my time as an MP, I fought tirelessly on behalf of constituents, lobbying ministers and raising questions in Westminster to ensure WASPI women were not forgotten. Yet, despite repeated promises, Labour has continued to delay full compensation, and women continue to die waiting.”

Martyn stressed that political concerns inside the Labour party cannot take priority over justice. “Labour MPs may worry that compensating WASPI women will remind the public of their inaction, but every day that passes without action is another day Scottish women lose out. The SNP has consistently stood up for WASPI women and will continue to demand that Westminster finally put right this historic wrong.”
