Motability appeals

Motability appeals

A Motability vehicle is not a luxury. For many disabled people, it is essential for attending medical appointments, getting to work and maintaining their independence.

At First Minister’s Questions, I highlighted that around 53 to 54 per cent of appeals are successful, yet tribunals can take between 12 and 18 months. During that time, people who genuinely require access to personal transport can be left without a Motability vehicle.

I asked what representations the First Minister could make to try to streamline the appeals process, so that deserving claimants are not seriously disadvantaged by such lengthy delays.

The system must be fairer, faster and more responsive to the needs of disabled people.
