LABOUR SHOULD SEND “EVERY PENNY” OF ITS JET FUEL FUND TO GRANGEMOUTH

WESTMINSTER’S £219M JET FUEL FUND A “KICK IN THE TEETH” TO SCOTLAND

Grangemouth workers were promised support by Labour. Instead, Scotland’s only oil refinery was allowed to close, taking with it the production of jet fuel that served the whole country.

Now Westminster has announced a £219 million sustainable aviation fuel fund while Scotland is left relying on imported jet fuel and facing the consequences of shortages.

That is a kick in the teeth to Grangemouth. Every penny of this fund should be directed to Grangemouth to help rebuild Scotland’s energy security, support skilled jobs, and reinvigorate the local economy.

Scotland has the energy resources, the workforce and the industrial know-how. What we lack is a Westminster system willing to back us.

With independence, we can use Scotland’s wealth to support Scotland’s industries and build a stronger, fairer future.

Commenting, SNP MSP for Falkirk East, Martyn Day, said:

“Despite all their election promises, the Labour Party didn’t lift a finger to save Scotland’s only refinery at Grangemouth which produced jet fuel for all of Scotland. 

“Now we are left with the absurd situation where Scotland – a country with an abundance of energy resources – is left to rely on jet fuel from overseas.

“We recently saw the impact of this with Scottish flights delayed due to fuel shortages – the blame lies directly at the doors of Westminster. 

“Quite frankly, this new fund is a kick in the teeth to Grangemouth workers and reflects just how little the Westminster parties care about Scotland’s energy workers.

“Through a fresh start with independence we can be free of these apologists to the Westminster system and use our vast energy wealth to back our key industries and build a wealthier Scotland anew.”
