SNP Delivers for Students – While Labour Pushes Up Fees

The SNP Government continues to back young people with real opportunities—not eye-watering debt.

While Labour-run England has just increased tuition fees to £9,535 a year, pushing average student debt to over £53,000, the SNP Government is proud to keep university tuition free in Scotland.

This isn’t just about costs. It’s about fairness and access.

New figures show that 5,445 students from Scotland’s most deprived communities secured a place at university in 2023–24—up 37% since the SNP launched its Widening Access strategy. More young people are not only sitting exams full of ambition, but going on to realise their potential through higher education.

And it’s not just universities. Since 2008, around 400,000 Modern and Foundation Apprenticeships have been created, backed by £100 million in funding, giving young people real, paid opportunities to learn while they earn.
