Cutting Waiting Times, Improving Care– Creating Jobs and Opportunities

Scotland’s NHS is one of our most vital public services, and the SNP Government is focused on making it easier for patients to get the treatment they need.

Last year, more than 105,500 appointments and procedures were delivered by health boards thanks to an additional £30 million of targeted investment – far exceeding the pledge to carry out 64,000 appointments by March 2025. This year, extra investment is expected to deliver more than 300,000 further appointments and procedures.

Progress is already clear. In 2024, the number of hip and knee arthroplasty operations reached an all-time high. At the same time, the Scottish Ambulance Service has been boosted by 360 newly qualified paramedics since 2023 – strengthening frontline emergency care.

Martyn Day said:

“Our NHS staff work tirelessly, and SNP investment is helping them deliver for patients. By cutting waiting times, recruiting more paramedics, and funding record numbers of operations, we are ensuring Scotland’s NHS delivers the care people need, when they need it.”
