Investing in Education and Fair Pay for Public Services

Public services are about people – from teachers shaping the next generation to staff providing care and support in our communities. The SNP Government is committed to fair pay for workers and investing in Scotland’s young people.

Scotland’s public sector workers are the best paid in the UK. The Institute for Fiscal Studies has confirmed that average pay for public sector workers is notably higher in Scotland than across the UK as a whole. That means fairer wages for those delivering vital services.

In education, Scotland is leading the way. We have the highest spend per pupil anywhere in the UK, the lowest teacher–pupil ratio, and continued investment through the Scottish Attainment Challenge and Pupil Equity Funding. This ensures children and young people, no matter their background, have the best possible start in life.
