Industry Visit – Grangemouth

Martyn Day visited the Whyte & Mackay bottling plant at Grangemouth, arranged by the Scotch Whisky Association on Thursday 30 April.

The site is a modern, purpose-built production and distribution facility, supporting one of Scotland’s most important industries. Whyte & Mackay sells single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, liqueurs, brandy, cognac and sherry, with Scotch Whisky distilleries including Jura, Fettercairn, Dalmore, Tamnavulin and Invergordon grain.

During the visit Martyn had the opportunity to tour the facility with Pierluigi Ratti, Supply Chain & Bottling Director at Whyte & Mackay, and Ellie Carrington, Political Engagement Officer at the Scotch Whisky Association. We discussed the industry’s manifesto priorities, the challenges facing Scotch Whisky, and the opportunities for growth, jobs and exports.

The visit came as First Minister John Swinney welcomed the “tremendous news” that US tariffs on Scotch Whisky are being lifted. As he said, “people’s jobs were at stake” and “millions of pounds were being lost every month from the Scottish economy.”

This matters because Scotch Whisky is not just a world-famous product. It supports jobs, investment and supply chains across Scotland, including here in Grangemouth.

Scotland needs a government that is always on Scotland’s side, standing up for our key industries and getting results. Today’s success on tariffs shows why experienced leadership matters.
