Historic Caerphilly Win Shows Another Scotland Is Possible

Congratulations to Plaid Cymru and their winning candidate, Lindsay Whittle, on an outstanding, historic result in Caerphilly. On a higher turnout than the last Senedd election, Plaid comfortably saw off Nigel Farage’s Reform UK and delivered a remarkable swing away from Labour—shaking assumptions well beyond Welsh politics.

This win points the path to next May’s elections. As our colleagues have set out, the combination of an SNP majority in Scotland and Plaid victories in Wales is the perfect chance to beat Nigel Farage’s Reform Party and remove Keir Starmer at the very same time—truly a two-for-one that would send shockwaves through a broken Westminster system. It underlines a simple truth: Westminster doesn’t work for Scotland or for Wales, and Brexit Britain is broken.
