SNP Government Delivers Major Savings for Local Rail Commuters

From 1st September, rail commuters in Falkirk East and Linlithgow will see significant savings thanks to the SNP Government’s decision to scrap peak rail fares permanently.

This landmark move means the same cheaper off-peak fare will now apply all day, every day — putting money back into people’s pockets and helping to tackle the cost of living crisis. For many regular travellers, this will mean significant savings for local commuters each year.

Our constituency is home to three main railway stations — Linlithgow, Polmont, and Falkirk High — all of which sit on some of Scotland’s busiest commuter routes. Whether you’re heading into Edinburgh, Glasgow, or further afield, these changes will make rail travel more affordable and accessible for everyone.

The SNP Government’s decision follows a successful trial period and reflects its commitment to keeping Scotland’s railways in public hands and run for the public good. While Westminster presides over a broken Brexit Britain with rising prices and cuts to public services, the SNP in government is taking real action to ease financial pressures on households.
