Grangemouth, Energy and Scotland’s Future

This vlog sets out a blunt case for why Scotland’s economy, energy future and industrial base are being held back by Westminster decisions. Businesses across Forth Valley face the highest industrial energy prices in the G7, alongside Labour’s farm tax, family business tax, a £26 billion hit on the cost of employing people, and fiscal drag squeezing wages. At the same time, Westminster’s hollow promises on Grangemouth, indifference to Mossmorran and the failure to fund the Acorn carbon capture project show Scotland treated as an afterthought rather than a priority.

The choice facing voters is clear: continue to accept decisions imposed from Westminster, or elect an SNP majority that will stand up for Scotland’s right to decide its own future. With control over Scotland’s vast energy resources, independence offers a different path – lower energy costs, a more competitive economy and the ability to invest directly in public services. Under John Swinney’s leadership, Scotland is already mitigating much of the damage, with record NHS activity, improving school attainment, lower unemployment than the UK average and falling child poverty. The SNP’s £8.5 million investment to support up to 460 new jobs in biotech and renewables at Grangemouth shows what is possible when government backs workers and communities. With the full powers of independence, Scotland can do far more.
