More Public EV Chargers for Falkirk and West Lothian

Scotland is leading the way on electric vehicle infrastructure, with 7,355 public charging points now available across the country. That’s a 22.5% increase in just one year and well beyond the original target of 6,000 public chargers, which was reached two years ahead of the 2026 deadline. Scotland also now has 35 public charging devices per 100,000 people – the highest rate of any UK nation.

Here in our local area, drivers are already seeing the benefits of that investment. Falkirk now has 146 public EV charging points, while West Lothian has 116, making it easier than ever for people to make the switch to electric with confidence that they can recharge close to home, work, and key amenities.

On the back of scrapping peak rail fares on Scotland’s trains, this expansion of the public charging network is further proof of the Scottish Government’s commitment to making sustainable travel accessible and affordable. With £10.8 million of new funding being invested in charging infrastructure – including support for rural and island communities – we are fast-tracking the transition to cleaner transport and supporting our ambition to phase out new petrol and diesel cars by 2030. I’ll continue working with councils, local businesses and charge point providers to ensure Falkirk and West Lothian get their fair share of that investment.
