End Scotland’s Energy Rip-Off
An energy rich Scotland can and should mean energy rich Scots
Scotland produces energy in surplus, and a surplus of low-cost energy in Scotland should mean low-cost energy for the people of Scotland for good.
Analysis produced for Ofgem shows that a different policy approach would enable Scotland to have the lowest wholesale electricity prices in western Europe.
SNP Candidate Martyn Day said; “By selling low-cost electricity into other markets at a profit, and increasing storage capacity to end the folly of generators being paid not to produce electricity, and by removing unnecessary costs like the UK’s nuclear levy- bills could be reduced by over a third.”
“That’s why I’m backing the Believe in Scotland ‘End Scotland’s Energy Bill Rip-Off’ campaign.”
The campaign calls on the UK Government to:-
- End unfair extra standing charges for Scottish consumers
- Deliver a fair, transparent energy pricing system that does not harm Scotland’s economy
- Provide a pricing benefit that recognises Scotland’s massive contribution to clean energy generation
- Publish a plan, with committed dates to lower energy bills for Scottish domestic and business consumers
- Cancel all new energy price rises planned by the regulator in 2026
