Celebrating Diwali with the Scottish Hindu Foundation

I was delighted to attend and participate in the Scottish Hindu Foundation’s Annual Diwali event. Diwali’s timeless message—light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance—felt especially powerful this year, and it was wonderful to celebrate with friends, families, and community leaders from across Scotland.

I want to particularly praise their leadership in developing and promoting a clear definition of Hinduphobia. This work matters: it helps raise awareness, guides public bodies and policymakers, and ensures that prejudice is challenged wherever it appears. Equally, their interfaith outreach—bringing people of different faiths and backgrounds together in dialogue and shared service—continues to strengthen the bonds that hold our diverse society together.

My thanks to the organisers, volunteers, performers, and everyone who helped create such a warm, welcoming celebration. I left inspired by the community’s energy and determination.
