Cash grants will support short breaks for Carers

Thousands more parent carers will get the chance to take a well-earned break, thanks to extra Scottish Government funding for Take a Break Scotland.

An additional £1.1 million will help around 3,000 carers of disabled or seriously ill children access cash grants for short breaks — whether that’s a day out or time away with loved ones. Caring can be relentless, exhausting and emotionally demanding.

Supporting carers to rest and recharge isn’t a luxury, it’s essential. This is about recognising their contribution and backing them with practical help when they need it most.

This £1.1 million investment takes total Take a Break Scotland funding up to £.3.3 million this year.

Take a Break Scotland is part of the Scottish Government funded voluntary sector Short Breaks Fund. This received a £5 million funding boost this year, taking total investment to £13 million.

There are around 694,000 unpaid carers, including 27,000 young carers under the age of 18, in Scotland.
