Dear {name} Scotland has now been the UK’s leading destination for foreign direct investment outside London for 11 consecutive years, but we haven’t done as well as we should with regards to our relations with India. India is the Uks second largest international investor, but only Scotland’s 11th. So with this in mind I fully welcome the Scottish Government’s new Scotland - India Strategic Market Insight Report, which correctly identifies India as one of Scotland’s largest international growth opportunities. It estimates that closer cooperation could generate opportunities worth more than £3 billion by 2030 across clean energy, technology, life sciences, advanced manufacturing and food and drink. Launching the report in Glasgow, Economy Secretary Stephen Flynn said: “India is not one market but many, with huge opportunities across a range of sectors.”
The report’s central message is that Scotland must move beyond occasional trade missions and general expressions of goodwill. With a focus on areas such as Green Hydrogen, battery storage and green port infrastructure featuring strongly. The report can be read at https://www.gov.scot/publications/scotland-india-strategic-market-insight-report/pages/2/ In my opinion this is particularly relevant to Grangemouth. Project Willow has identified nine potential investment areas, including plastics recycling, biorefining, low-carbon hydrogen, e-methanol, sustainable aviation fuel and low-carbon ammonia. Delivering them will require substantial private capital, engineering capacity, technology partnerships and reliable international supply chains. India possesses the manufacturing scale, competitive engineering, fabrication expertise and renewable-energy ambition that could complement Scotland’s industrial assets, skilled workforce and experience. I want the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International to produce a dedicated India-facing Project Willow investment prospectus. I will be pursing this after Parliament resumes. Yours for Scotland,
