Dear {name} I welcome the launch of the SNP’s “It’s Scotland’s Energy” campaign. This is a crucial step in showing how Scotland’s energy resources can be harnessed for the benefit of our people—delivering lower bills, local jobs, and investment in a sustainable future. During my time at Westminster, I highlighted that the UK’s energy system is failing people across Scotland—from pensioners and disabled constituents struggling with soaring bills to families forced into “heat or eat” choices, and businesses facing crippling costs. I challenged the Government on punitive standing charges, confusing short-term schemes, and spiralling bills, arguing that the free market has failed consumers while enriching energy companies. I called for fairer pricing, social tariffs, stronger regulation, public ownership of strategic energy assets, and a just transition through investment in renewables, green hydrogen, and projects like Acorn—so Scotland can secure an affordable, sustainable, and publicly accountable energy future. The “It’s Scotland’s Energy” campaign highlights how independence would allow Scotland to cut household energy bills by over a third, create a fairer system, and deliver real economic benefits locally. By ensuring at least 20% community ownership in new onshore wind projects, the campaign puts local people at the heart of our energy transition, so that wealth generated from Scotland’s energy stays in Scotland. This campaign is about more than energy—it’s about fairness, opportunity, and control. Independence would give us the powers to make energy work for our communities, not just multinational corporations, while supporting local jobs, renewable investment, and a sustainable industrial future. I look forward to working with colleagues, communities, and businesses to ensure that Scotland’s energy delivers for everyone. Yours for Scotland,
