Dear {name} SNP Action - building a better Scotland I am sure that we all breathed a sigh of relief that the SNP Government has stepped in to safeguard the future of Alexander Dennis in Falkirk, protecting hundreds of skilled jobs and providing security for many local families. Following intensive discussions between the company, trade unions, Scottish Enterprise, and the Scottish Government, a £4 million support package has been agreed. This funding will underpin a company-run furlough scheme for up to 26 weeks, giving Alexander Dennis the breathing space it needs to secure new orders and restart full manufacturing. This decision ensures that bus manufacturing remains in Scotland, sustaining not just the workforce in Larbert and Falkirk, but also the many suppliers and businesses across the country that depend on this industry. It is a vital step in protecting the skills we need to drive forward Scotland’s green industrial future. The outcome shows what can be achieved when government, unions, and industry work together with a shared determination. While challenges remain, this agreement gives Alexander Dennis a bridge to a sustainable future – and ensures our community’s proud tradition of manufacturing continues. It also highlights what can be achieved when the powers and fiscal ability of the Scottish Parliament align. Imagine what we could achieve if these were not limited by the constraints of devolution. What has been clear from the beginning is that procurement laws, including the Subsidy Control Act, developed and continued by subsequent UK governments, must change in order for manufacturing in the UK to have any real chance at a sustainable future. Independence will give us the power to act on this. Yours for Scotland,
